Online Faculty - Sociology of Death and Dying (Healthcare Admin)

Overview

The College of Allied Health seeks a qualified and student-centered instructor to teach SOC 210: Sociology of Death and Dying in a fully online, asynchronous or synchronous format. This 3‑credit, 15‑week undergraduate course examines death, dying, grief, and bereavement in contemporary American society through a sociological perspective, with emphasis on ethical, legal, cultural, and healthcare-related considerations. The course is delivered through Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and supported by Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Microsoft Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in online pedagogy, digital learning technologies, and inclusive instructional practices, particularly when facilitating sensitive and emotionally complex subject matter. Duties

  • Develop and deliver engaging course content that aligns with the curriculum and meets the needs of diverse learners.
  • Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) to enhance instructional delivery and track student progress.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Develop and update course syllabi, materials, and assessments in line with academic standards, online best practices, and federal distance education requirements.
  • Deliver engaging synchronous and asynchronous (as necessary) content using Mandl’s learning management system (e.g., Canvas) that meet security and accessibility standards.
  • Employ a variety of digital tools (video conferencing, interactive modules, discussion boards) to facilitate effective learning.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or certification in a relevant field:

- Sociology -Social Sciences (with a Sociology concentration) -Thanatology -Gerontology -Public Health (with social/behavioral focus)

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the field being taught or a closely related discipline is required. E.g.: Sociology, Social Sciences (with a Sociology concentration), etc.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience, including curriculum development.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Relevant industry experience in healthcare, allied health, business, or other program-specific sectors is highly desirable.
  • Experience in online course design and curriculum development.
