Freelance Illustrator – Book Project

This role involves illustrating a 500-word children’s book designed for ages 3 to 10, focusing on the story of Grandad, Grandma, and their 7-year-old granddaughter as they explore foods together. The book’s tone is fun and family-oriented, with scenes set primarily in the kitchen and dining room, as well as outdoor and beach settings. The illustrations should be bright, engaging, and clear, with expressive characters and easily recognizable foods. The recurring motif of a tomato sauce bottle should appear in many scenes. The project is ideal for illustrators who can bring warmth, humor, and clarity to family interactions and food-related themes. Deliverables

• 11 full-page, landscape illustrations, including the front cover
• High-resolution JPG/PNG files and print-ready artwork in landscape format
• Consistent character design for Grandad (active, slim, casual clothes), Grandma (active, casual or sportswear), and the 7-year-old granddaughter (blonde, curly hair, outdoorsy or in ballet skirt)
• Scenes depicting kitchen activities, a garden, a beach picnic, and a family sofa moment, with a final scene including parents and a younger granddaughter
• Visual storytelling that highlights food exploration and family dynamics
• Flexible timeline to accommodate creative process

Requirements

• Proven experience illustrating children’s books or similar projects
• Strong portfolio demonstrating ability to create expressive, engaging characters and clear, vibrant scenes
• Ability to depict a range of indoor and outdoor family settings
• Familiarity with creating artwork suitable for print and digital formats
• Attention to detail in character consistency and recurring visual motifs
• Excellent communication skills and openness to feedback
